Details

Travelling from the forests of Finland to the ngahere of Aotearoa, Thank You, Forest is a beautifully imaginative children’s book that unfolds through the pages of a child’s notebook.

Finnish author and poet Johanna Venho introduces readers to Spruce, a young girl whose sanctuary is the forest near her home. Through collected treasures, sketches, notes, and observations, she fills her notebook with the beauty and wonder of the natural world around her.

But when Spruce learns the forest has been “zoned” for apartment blocks, she begins tying handwritten notes to the trees in protest. Her messages are discovered by Gale — a mysterious boy with green eyes and twigs in his hair — who leads her deep into the forest to an underground lake that may hold the key to saving the trees.
