Tupuarangi Earrings
Tupuarangi is closely linked to food and growth, akin to Tupuanuku, the star of all cultivated and wild food sources. However, Tupuarangi specifically relates to food from the sky and is connected to nga manu (birds). This collection draws inspiration from native birds such as the kereru, kaka, and kahu, embodying the spirit of Tupuarangi as a skilled hunter of birds.
The main tohu (pattern) featured is the kaka poria—small leg rings traditionally made from bone or stone like pounamu. These rings symbolised birds becoming mokai (pets), which were then used to aid in hunting more kaka.
These earrings showcase a gold mirror Perspex design, approximately 7cm in size, hanging from gold-plated, nickel-free hooks.
Care Instructions: Handle your taonga with care. Clean with a damp cloth and allow to air dry.
